CDMA2000/EV-DO

Product overview

CDMA is an airlink technology first developed for commercial use by Qualcomm. It was designed to send voice and data transmissions between mobile devices and cell sites more efficiently than comparable technologies, which meant it did not suffer from the same capacity drawbacks. As a result, more users could be active on the network at the same time and fewer cell sites were required to support a large user base.

CDMA goes 3G

The next generation of the CDMA airlink, called CDMA2000, features even greater user capacity and dramatic increases in data transmission speed.

The latest version of CDMA2000 technology is EV-DO, with the most recent variations called EV-DO Rev A (short for REVision A) and EV-DO Rev B. Both exceed 3G standards and feature significant improvements in peak rate download and upload speeds.

These tremendous boosts in speed have enabled a wide range of new, bandwidth-hungry applications and functionality. High-resolution photos and large file attachments can be uploaded with ease. Low transmission delays support VoIP and many other on-demand, real-time functions. Higher data rates facilitate the delivery of video and music content. With the wireless broadband speed of CDMA2000/EV-DO, the true convergence of mobile communication and mobile computing has been achieved at last.
